1933's Chicago Worlds Fair... PS
After my last post, I remembered that I was able to view some of the quilts from the 1933 Chicago Worlds Fair... in person! A traveling quilt show came to our area. It didn't take much to coax my mother to join me on a road trip! Mom was tickled to see some of those quilts again... share tidbits with me about those she remembered... and amazed at how well they had survived the years. It was quite an amazing day... and didn't even take a time machine to transport me! She was able to visit the Worlds Fair many times, but the last day of the fair she said brought tears... so sad to see it end and start to be torn down. Many of the buildings traveled across the country... to become business/homes... novelties. The quilts obviously traveled on also... to the delight of so many quilt lovers!

How lovely that your mom has your interest and to have the World Fair event passed to you first hand. Fantastic
ReplyDeleteLove the dresden variation in the last post and the story. So sweet to hear first hand from your mom her memories.
ReplyDeleteHow wonderful for you to be able to view those quilts with your Mom and hear the stories from her!
ReplyDeleteI can't imagine what a good time you must have had viewing the quilts, what a wonderful opportunity. How very special for your mother too.
ReplyDeleteHow cool! I have the book "Patchwork Souvenirs of the 1933 World´s Fair" by Merikay Waldvogel and Barbara Brackman, and I love it a lot. All these beautiful quilts and the stories behind them. How amazing it would be to see them in person!
