I am exploring some old family trunks and found this small red & white quilt. I believe I remember playing dolls with this quilt, many years ago... but have no idea of origin or story behind it. The strips vary... from 1/4" to 1/2" and then there is the crooked white top stitching/quilting... doesn't feel like any batting.
The size is roughly 28" x 35"... is that a cradle size... baby... or maybe just a doll quilt?? The backing makes me wonder if it might be a bit (lots?) older than my half century plus years??? I've no living relatives to fill in the blanks... so if anyone wishes to play make believe or take a guess... I'd love to hear your thoughts!
what an awesome find. thanks for stopping by my blog and leaving a comment.
ReplyDeleteWHat a great find!! It looks like it's in great shape.
ReplyDeleteWhat a pretty red and white quilt! Looks almost like it is a log cabin type block starting with the little red piece in the center. Pretty border, too. You have a little gem there. Carol
ReplyDeleteI love this! And I love how your Kitchen Angel sorta crept into one of the photos!
ReplyDeleteI hope somebody is able to help you sleuth down the era and pattern or purpose of this little gem. Even the wonky quilting is cool.

Dear Chartreuse, first I want to thank you for stopping by on my blog and leave a comment! Then I'd like to say that this little red quilt is a lovely baby-quilt. I think it is a courthouse-step pattern, but I really could not tell you anything about its history. Well enjoy the weekend, the twins and your "reverse life" (what a wonderful way of saying this).

Well...it's as cute as cute can be!
ReplyDeleteI'm just writing a post on doll quilts so this captured my heart! Beautiful photo, as are all your quilts.
ReplyDeleteit is courthouse steps (log cabin variation) and really small blocks. I would call that cradle size. Probably the person who made it just decided they had had enough when it got to that size and stopped.
ReplyDeleteHi I've just come over from Lori's blog.
ReplyDeleteWhat a beautiful blog you have! I've just added you to my reader -
love the red & white
Oh, you already did it! Sorry, was not here for some time. You know, our computer breakdown.
ReplyDeleteWhat a beautiful little quilt! And so small pieces! A great find!
Love this treasure.
ReplyDeleteWhat a beautiful little treasure. Red and white is a classic combination.
ReplyDeleteWhat a gorgeous little red and white quilt. There is so much work in it and it's in great condition. What a shame there's no label on it!
ReplyDeleteOH what a great quilt
ReplyDeleteI LOVE It. The size leads me to believe it is more of a crib quilt than a doll quilt. I love the graphicness of the quilt.
A treasure for sure!
thanks for visiting my blog

I absolutely love this quilt. I am a lover of small wall hanging sized quilts. This reminds me of doll quilts and crib quilts. I think I might have to make one like this. It is gorgeous!!!! Thanks for sharing it with us. Stephanie
